Filipino housekeepers for London homes

A good housekeeper keeps your home running: cleaning to your standards, laundry and ironing, cooking if you need it, and the hundred small things of a busy family. We introduce experienced housekeepers to families across London, live-in or live-out.

What a housekeeper usually does

  • Cleaning and tidying the whole house, to the standard you set.
  • Laundry, ironing and looking after clothes and linen.
  • Cooking family meals, if you want it — tell us and we look for candidates who cook.
  • Shopping, errands and keeping the house stocked.
  • Help with the children, if the role combines housekeeping and childcare.

How we choose who to introduce

We talk to every candidate before accepting her: what she has really done, in which homes, and for how long. Her references are on her profile, with their phone number, so you can call them yourself. We tell you how well she speaks English and what she does best.

You are the employer

You employ her directly, as families in the UK do with domestic staff: a written statement of her terms from her first day, PAYE with HMRC (income tax and National Insurance), paid holiday of 5.6 weeks a year, a workplace pension if she qualifies, and the right insurance cover (many nanny payroll packages include employer's liability insurance). A nanny payroll service can run all of it for a small monthly fee; we introduce you to one if you wish.

Right to work

We check every candidate's right to work in the UK before we introduce her: a British or Irish passport, or a Home Office share code for settled or pre-settled status, indefinite leave to remain or a visa that allows this work. As her employer you must also check it yourself before she starts — that check is what protects you, and employing someone without the right to work can mean a civil penalty of up to £60,000 per worker.

Our fee

Meeting candidates is free. If you hire someone we introduced, our fee is one month of her gross salary, paid once, seven days after she starts. For 12 months, if it does not work out for any reason, we find you another candidate at no extra cost, as many times as needed. There are no monthly fees, and candidates never pay us anything.

About our name

"Filipina at Home" is our name, and many of our candidates come from the Filipino community in London. We introduce candidates on the basis of their experience, references and right to work — we do not select or exclude anyone because of their nationality or any other protected characteristic.

Frequently asked questions

Live-in or live-out?+

Both. A live-in housekeeper has her own room and agreed hours and days off; a live-out housekeeper comes for agreed hours or days. The National Living Wage applies to both.

How much does a housekeeper cost in London?+

You agree the salary with her. In London a live-in housekeeper is usually paid between £600 and £850 a week gross; live-out, by the hour or by the day. On top of the salary you pay employer National Insurance and, if she qualifies, a workplace pension.

What if it does not work out?+

For 12 months from her start date we find you another candidate at no extra cost, as many times as needed.
